Pioneering female country singer Kitty Wells died today at her home in Madison, Tennessee, due to complications from a stroke, her grandson John Sturd.

Kitty Wells, who died Monday at 92, was born in Nashville, Tenn., to a family of country musicians, and within that simple truth lies a fascinating narrative.

Singer was best known for the hit, 'It Wasn't God Who Made Honky Tonk Angels.'
